TRENTON [February 4, 2004] - The New Jersey State League of Municipalities inducted Warren County Freeholder John DiMaio into the Elected Officials Hall of Fame during the Twelfth Annual Mayors Legislative Day on January 21, 2004, at the State House Annex in Trenton.

The honor is reserved for local municipal governing body members who, as of December 2003, served for more than 20 years in elected municipal office. DiMaio, who served the Town of Hackettstown as a councilman and mayor for 20 years before becoming a freeholder in December 2000, was among 38 new inductees from throughout the state.

“The Elected Officials Hall of Fame recognizes these officials who have selflessly guided their communities through the good times and troubled times with little recognition of their sacrifice,” said South Bound Brook Mayor Jo-Anne B. Schubert, the president of the State League of Municipalities. “This token of appreciation will shine a light on these pillars in our communities and hold them up as an example of civic pride for all citizens to emulate.”

There currently are 282 inductees in the Elected Officials Hall of Fame.

“It’s a real honor to be included in the Elected Officials Hall of Fame with these men and women who have done so much for their municipalities,” DiMaio remarked. “Local government, as the level of government closest to the people, plays a vital role in people’s lives, and I’m happy to have been able to contribute to my hometown during the two decades I spent as mayor and as a council member,” he added.
