WASHINGTON, NJ [November 5, 2004] – The Warren County Health Department Division of Public Health Nursing is sponsoring three flu clinics for residents of Warren County on November 18th opening at 9 AM at the following locations:

  • Panther Valley Ecumenical Ministry on Route 517, Allamuchy.
  • Grace Lutheran Church on Roseberry Street, Phillipsburg.
  • Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church on 200 West Carlton Avenue, Washington.

There is no pre-registration.

Only adults who are in one of the following high-risk categories are eligible to receive the vaccination. These groups include:

  • People 65 years of age and older.
  • People 19 years of age and older with underlying medical conditions that put them at high risk for influenza related complications.

Proof of age and Warren County residency must be provided in order to receive the vaccination. People under the age of 65 must provide a note from a physician written on either prescription blank or letterhead stationery stating the person’s name and that he or she is in a high-risk category for this flu season.

The cost of the vaccine is covered under Medicare Part B, Oxford Medicare HMO and Atena Medicare HMO. For all others the cost of the vaccination is $10.00.

Unfortunately due to the limited supply of flu vaccine, it is unlikely that there will be enough vaccine for all who need it at this time. The New Jersey Department of Health & Senior Services is working closely with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to determine the amount of additional vaccine that will be distributed in New Jersey.

People can help protect themselves from flu by following these guidelines:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw away the tissue right away and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water for 20 seconds.
  • If you don’t have a tissue when you need to cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with your hands. Wash your hands right away with soap and warm water.
