Warren County and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) are inviting the public to attend a regional transportation visioning workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. at Warren County Technical School.
The workshop is part of the development of the NJTPA’s Regional Transportation Plan 2035. The NJTPA conducts regional transportation planning and authorizes federal transportation investment in 13 counties in northern and central New Jersey, including Warren County.
“Improving transportation in our county is vital,” said Warren County Freeholder Director John DiMaio, who represents the county on the NJTPA Board of Trustees and serves as Chairman of the NJTPA’s Planning and Economic Development Committee. “We’re working to build a vision that links transportation and land use decisions to create better quality of life for those who live and work in the county and the larger region. We want to hear from Warren County residents about these critical issues.”
At the workshop, participants will engage in an interactive visioning exercise to express their preferences on land use and transportation investment over the next 25 years. The workshop will feature discussion of the interaction between land use and transportation and consider the potential effects of economic growth, technological advances, energy prices and other forces on the region’s future.
The workshop is just one way to get involved with the NJTPA’s Plan 2035. Those interested in learning more about the plan and sharing their thoughts on the region’s future can visit www.njtpa.org. Click on the Plan 2035 logo to engage in the visioning exercise online; take an online survey on transportation; sign up for a mailing list; leave comments on the Plan 2035 message board; and more. Comments also can be left via voice mail at (800) 641-6079. |

The NJTPA will draw on all public input received in developing the federally required long-range transportation plan for the 13 counties in the NJTPA region. All projects in the region that receive federal funding must have their origin in and be consistent with the plan.
The workshop is open to the public, but seating is limited. The meeting will be held at Warren County Technical School, 1500 Route 57, in Washington. To register, contact Scott Giering of Howard/Stein-Hudson Associates, at sgiering@hshassoc.com or (917) 339-0488.

The NJTPA is the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for 13 northern New Jersey Counties. Under federal legislation, MPOs provide a forum where local officials, public transportation providers and state agency representatives can come together and cooperatively plan to meet the region’s current and future transportation needs. It establishes the region’s eligibility to receive federal tax dollars for transportation projects.
The NJTPA Board consists of one local elected official from each of the 13 counties in the region (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren), and the cities of Newark and Jersey City. The Board also includes a Governor’s Representative, the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the Executive Directors of NJ Transit and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and a Citizen’s Representative appointed by the Governor.
