The mission of the Warren County Fire Academy is to develop an instructional delivery
system through which a standardized county-wide firefighter training curriculum is
developed and implemented to train a maximum number of career, volunteer, and industrial
fire service and emergency services personnel to:
- Develop the skills necessary to command and control emergency operations involving
fire, rescue and hazardous material incidents.
- Develop managerial and leadership skills for all levels of fire officers.
- Develop skills in fire department support functions to include public fire
education, fire prevention and fire investigations.
Each member of the staff and faculty of the Warren County Fire
Academy is committed to providing the highest level of service possible in the delivery
and support of training to Warren County Fire Academy students and fire service personnel.
The Academy is part of the Division of Fire and Life Safety which operates under the
Department of Public Safety in association with the Warren County Community College.
The Warren County Fire Academy provides fire and emergency
response training to emergency service organizations throughout the county and northwest
New Jersey. The Academy's mission is to provide the highest level of emergency response
and management training as effectively and efficiently as possible. The mission is met
through an ongoing program of curriculum development and delivery that uses the most
up-to-date methods, and meets state and national standards and accreditation criteria.
The Warren County Fire Academy is certified by the New Jersey State Division of Fire Safety.
The certification guarantees that the Academy programs have met the state standards.
The Academy currently offers certified courses in Firefighter One, Incident Command Systems,
Incident Safety Officer, and Fire Training Instructor Courses.
The Warren County Fire Academy is located within the county educational complex.
The complex contains the County Community College, Vo-Tech School, the regional
Communication Center, and the Fire Academy. The academy facilities host a variety
of training areas as follows: a four story training tower for fast teams,
a flashover simulator, a natural gas training simulator, a live fire car pad,
tanker spill area, a new four story live burn/smoke building, a 10,000 gallon
water supply tank, several classrooms and a small kitchen facility.
Future facilities being planned include a confined space prop and an indoor SCBA confidence maze.
The Academy delivers training in three general areas listed below.
- Direct Delivery Training Program: These are the field courses held in local
fire houses through the county. They are scheduled by the hosting department
to cover a region of the county, are offered to all area emergency personnel
and are taught by the Academy staff.
- Fire Ground Based Training: These courses are offered at the Academy
facility, are open to all emergency service personnel, and taught by the
Academy staff and guest speakers.
- Instructor Training Programs: These courses include the Instructional
Methodology Courses, General Safety, Live Burn, and SCBA/Smokehouse Courses
and professional skills development. All these courses may result in a
certification issued by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety.
