Four members of the Warren County 4-H Teen Council are going on “the trip of a lifetime,” heading to Russia for two weeks to work with youth on the other side of the globe.
“You young folks are going on the trip of a lifetime,” Freeholder Director Richard D. Gardner said as the Board of Chosen Freeholders presented the delegation with a proclamation saluting their efforts.
Leaving Thursday, June 18, for the two-week trip are county 4-H Teen Council President Danny Torretta, Vice President Spencer Ross, Treasurer Nick Pope, and member Jeff Wilson.
Teen Council members will be conducting a hands-on learning experience for Russian youth to assist them with mastering the English language, while also bringing to them information about the 4-H program and telling them about life in Warren County and in the United States of America.
The freeholder proclamation expressed admiration and support for the Teen Council members as they “serve as ambassadors working to enhance cross-cultural understanding,” and also wished them success in their mission and a safe trip.
“Anything we can do to promote better understanding between cultures, the closer we’ll be to world peace,” Freeholder Everett A. Chamberlain remarked.
Freeholder Angelo Accetturo said the teens will do the county proud as ambassadors for both the county and for 4-H.
Warren County 4-H Agent Alayne Torretta, who also is going on the trip, said the teens had been working hard since January learning about the Russian culture and team building.
The trip is being funded mostly by proceeds from the milk and ice cream booth at the Warren County Farmers’ Fair, where all four worked.
Torretta added she expected they would come to appreciate the “land of plenty” we have here.
