(WHITE TOWNSHIP, APRIL 8, 2009) – Oxford Mayor Angelo Accetturo was sworn in to the Warren County Board of Chosen Freeholders, filling the seat vacated when former freeholder John DiMaio became a state Assemblyman last month.
With his wife, Carrie Marie Accetturo, and their six-year-old son, Anthony, at his side, Accetturo was administered the oath of office by the man he replaced. Assemblyman DiMaio resigned from the freeholder board after being selected at a 23rd District Republican convention to replace Marcia Karrow in the Assembly, who moved on to the state Senate after former senator Leonard Lance was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
DiMaio said he was pleased to participate in Accetturo’s swearing-in ceremony and wished the new freeholder well.
Accetturo has been an Oxford Township Committeeman for 18 years and was named mayor in January by his fellow committee members. Other stints as mayor included the years 2000-2003 and 2006. He also serves on the Pollution Control Financing Authority of Warren County, and the Warren County (Pequest River) Municipal Utilities Authority.
“I’m very excited about being a freeholder,” Accetturo said as his first meeting on the board drew to a close. “I pledge to the public that I’ll do this job to the best of my ability,” he said, adding he will always be available if members of the public have any comments or questions for him.
Freeholder Everett A. Chamberlain noted he serves with Accetturo on the PCFAWC, calling him “a straightforward individual” who will “represent the County very well.” |

Freeholder Director Richard D. Gardner took note of Accetturo’s years of municipal experience and remarked, “This is a natural fit for you.”
Gardner continued, “We have a lot of great people in this county, and that’s what makes it an honor to serve the public.”
