Environmental Resources Inventory
The Warren County Environmental Commission is pleased to present the Environmental Resources Inventory of Warren County. This document and the maps were prepared with the aid of two grants from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Office of Environmental Services and with funding from the Warren County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Here you will find GIS resources, obtain information, and data to help you understand and work effectively with GIS technology.
GIS Digital Data Downloads
NJDEP is making its GIS data available to you through downloads. Some of the data can be viewed through their interactive mapping applications. Most datasets are available for download from their web site as ArcView Shape files.
The files can be used with your GIS or can be viewed with a

Pohatcong Creek Watershed Association
What is the Pohatcong Creek Watershed?
The Pohatcong Creek flows from its headwaters in Independence Township, through the scenic Skylands Region of Warren County, N.J., to its mouth at the Delaware River in Pohatcong Township. The Pohatcong Creek is approximately 20 miles in length. The Watershed is the area that drains into the Creek. This is 58 square miles
of woodland, farms, wetlands, urban areas and residences.
What is a Watershed?
It's the area of land that catches rain and snow and drains or seeps into a marsh, stream, river, lake or groundwater.
Hydrologic Unit Codes (HUC)
Watersheds are delineated by USGS using a nationwide system based on surface hydrologic features. This system divides the country into 21 regions, 222 subregions, 352 accounting units, and 2,262 cataloguing units. A hierarchical hydrologic unit code (HUC) consisting of 2 digits for each level in the hydrologic unit system is used to identify any hydrologic area. The 6 digit accounting units and the 8 digit cataloguing units are generally referred to as basin and sub-basin. It is defined as the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) and generally serves as the backbone for the country's hydrologic delineation. A watershed in Surf Your Watershed is the 8 digit cataloging unit.
